The Ghostriders lost in Invermere by a 4-1 score on Saturday night. See the game summary here
The Good
The Riders had a decent amount of shots in the 4-1 loss and must have dominated the play as they were also awarded 12 PP chances, at least according to the game sheet. The Riders also killed all 7 Rockies PP's so they did some good things. Pat Webb scored the Riders lone goal on the PP. Webb has taken a big jump since last season when he was in and out of the lineup and this year he has shown flashes of brilliance, if that's the right term... and those flashes are getting closer and closer together as the season wears on, he will be needed down the stretch and in the P/O's and he will definitely be a top defender in the next two years of edibility.
The Not So Bad
Well on twitter we throw out lots of Ghostrider stats and that fact was noticed by the Rockies on Saturday night as they chirped me that they are now 3-3 with Fernie... Well we put out Rider stats on Twitter because we actually have them....@#even more enemies now ... I love the chirp backs, keep em commin... and believe it or not, I think it's good to see the the Rockies actually have some stats of their own now. Since Bjorkman, Diehl and Mitchel retired four or so years ago they haven't done anything....every time they came Fernie I went to the rink knowing for absolute certain who was going to win.. and it wasn't the Rockies. Now with Burge and goalie Nelson having something to prove, and the Dubielewicz's at the helm (was that spelled right?) we have a rivalry.
The Ugly ...... Happy Trails to You
Last season Ryan Edwards (didn't think I'd heard of this eh) had 35 goals and 95 points for the Beaver Valley Nitehawks. Edwards (93) went to Trail to play Jr. "A" this season but decided he wanted out in December so he left the team for BV. Trail head Coach and GM Bill Birks didn't like like that idea so got the BCHL to suspended him, meaning he couldn't play any hockey for 30 days. BV Head Coach Terry Jones wanted Edwards back and knew he was allowed to move down a level and that Trail really had no say in the matter, so they confronted Birks in front of the Trail buss and wouldn't let it move, as you can imagine, there were also some verbal shots between the two coaches. Anyway, the buss finally left and Edwards is back in BV where he has 8 goals and 7 assists in his first 8 games.Meanwhile back at the KIJHL ranch, BV Coach Jones got a 3 game suspension and a $100 fine. You can't make this stuff up. Trail Coach Bill Birks says he was "appalled" at what he saw from the Nitehawks' coach and the "era of player co-operation is buried" . Only trouble with that is, considering some of the players BV has developed over the years, there are 15 other BCHL Jr "A" teams who would gladly enter an era of player co-operation with BV. You gotta wonder why Edwards wanted to leave Trail and why he isn't the only player to do so.
And Finally, for those KIJHL er's who think the KIJHL Problems twitter is on your side they are not and were chirpin the BV guys about the Edwards story...just so U know
The Good. Fernie was hot out of the gates until the first goal by CV cooled things a little. Carr and Horlick have been the Fernie's shut down pair but were beaten by a speedy Burge and a great shot that handcuffed Solecki. The next goal by Burge wasn't so much of a shot as it was a great bounce that Fernie hasn't seen much of this year. Fernie slowed a little in the second period taking several penalties but poured out the intensity in the third. As hard as they worked Fernie just couldn't beat CV goaltender Nelson. Good on CV for the win. Kudos to Fernie for die hard attitude.
ReplyDeleteThe not so bad. The Eddie Mountain Division has been more competitive this year than years past. CV is not just a point padding exercise that Teams in the Neil Murdock Division are experiencing. Most games have been tight unlike a 15-0 win by BV, a 42 point night for the players.CV has moved players and come up with a competitive team that wants to be in the playoffs. Fernie and Golden are trying to win the division and possibly a first round match up with CV. Hockey will only get better as the playoffs get closer and points are invaluable.
ReplyDeleteThe Ugly.
ReplyDeleteHow each side justifies the moral outrage. Terry Jones has been the common denominator in many years of Night Hawk Smokies relations. With this kind of history we could make this tension it's own blog. Fact Terry Jones doesn't care about a downtrodden hockey player just trying to play. He cares about a Junior A caliber kid returning to his Junior B team. If he cared for the marginal how is it He doesn't mention the player that needs to be released from BV for Edward's return. This returning player, a 19 year old young man, decided to sign in Trail and then has decided to abandon his Trail teammates. Edward believes or the people around him believe that the rules of Hockey don't apply to him. A minimum 30 day suspension for players quitting or not reporting. Decisions and consequences sound like a life lesson learned. Trail has had issues with some players deciding to hold the team hostage to their demands. The BC Hockey rules helps prevent Trail from always being shorted on player trades or situations where players "burn" a team card. Contemplate your decisions because only you should be held accountable for them.
